About Ashley
License #: 86450Hi, I'm glad you're here! I'm a native Austinite (that spent a few years away in NYC) who really loves what I do. I earned my counseling degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University and have been a therapist for over 10 years. I'm a mom, a sister, daughter, and friend, and enjoy reading, traveling, and trying to find the best bagel in Austin.
My Therapeutic Approach
No one-size fits all in therapy, and I'll use a variety of approaches to tailor sessions to clients and their needs. I prefer client-centered CBT-informed work (meaning I'll meet you where you're at and what you're ready for and we can examine your thoughts and beliefs and how they impact your life). I'm also well trained in short-term/solutions-based counseling having worked in a college counseling center, and dabble with DBT, relational work, and identity development. I show up to sessions laid-back and try to make starting therapy as chill and easy as possible.
Who I Help Best
I enjoy working with clients who are experiencing big life changes (new relationships, starting a new chapter like college or a new job, break ups), people exploring their identity (gender and sexual identities, 'who am I as an adult?' folks, parentified children that are now parents), and people wanting to improve their communication and connectedness to others however that shows up.
What a First Session Is Like
In our first session together we'll have some structured time-- I'll ask that you share what brought you to therapy (as much as you're comfortable doing so), and we'll talk policies, and I'll get some additional background/life story information from you so that we're starting off on the same page. You're also more than welcome to ask any questions that you have.
