About Jeana
License #: 201662People seek therapy for a number of reasons, often because they feel 'stuck' in unproductive patterns and don't know how to move forward toward a more satisfying life. You may be seeking therapy because you are suffering with a biologically based mental illness, such as depression, psychological distress, conflict in your relationships, or out of a desire for deeper understanding of yourself and more authentic connections with others. I believe that through a genuine, validating connection with a therapist you can begin to find the key to a more peaceful, fulfilling life. I believe in working with each individual and family in a non-judgmental, direct, and collaborative way. My aim is to help clients foster a better understanding of themselves as individuals and how they relate to others, and through this understanding, make the changes needed to live a more fulfilling, engaged life. After receiving my Bachelors degree in Psychology from San Diego State University in 1993, I went on to receive my Masters degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from the University of San Diego in 1997. Since graduating, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings, including hospital based psychiatric clinics, community based mental health clinics, school based mental health clinics, and most recently in private practice. My previous work has included crisis management, assessment, and treatment of individuals with severe mental illness, and treatment of children and families.
My Therapeutic Approach
My mission is to provide a place where you can talk things through, reflect on what’s happening, and understand yourself more clearly. I believe that insight, paired with supportive therapeutic connection, makes meaningful change possible. My clients are often capable, accomplished people who value personal growth but feel weighed down by internal struggles they haven’t been able to resolve on their own. In therapy, you can expect a grounded, encouraging presence and a collaborative process focused on perspective-building rather than judgment. Whether you’re in a rough spot in a relationship, coping with anxiety, or trying to understand long-standing emotional patterns, the work is centered on helping you feel more connected to yourself and others. My work is grounded in relational, psychodynamic, and family systems approaches. I integrate these with mentalization-based techniques and cognitive-behavioral strategies to support deeper self-understanding and more effective communication.
Who I Help Best
Many of the people I work with function well in most areas of life, yet carry a persistent sense of worry, self-doubt, or emotional heaviness behind the scenes. They often arrive in therapy feeling overwhelmed by transitions, discouraged by recurring relationship patterns, or unsure why small conflicts feel so difficult to move past. I work with adults from many different backgrounds, supporting people through everything from major life transitions and everyday stress to complex mental health concerns. My clients Clients frequently describe struggling in the following areas: Mood and anxiety symptoms Persistent worry or rumination Low self-esteem and chronic self-criticism Feeling emotionally “stuck” in relationships or family dynamics Difficulty regulating emotions under stress Loneliness, guilt, or lingering pain from childhood trauma or invalidating environments
