About Shannon

License #: 89873

Welcome! I'm Shannon, a therapist who works with women struggling with anxiety, trauma symptoms, and relationship challenges. I tend to be the therapist I personally would want to work with: real, genuine, non-judgmental, and with a touch of humor. I offer individual sessions for folks who want a little bit more than traditional talk therapy. This means incorporating some somatic and evidence based practices (called IFS and EMDR) that help you understand and reprocess your symptoms as opposed to just talking about them on a surface level. Whether you are brand new to therapy or have done it for years, I'd love to chat about your current goals.

My Therapeutic Approach

I use both EMDR and IFS. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy is a structured treatment that includes bilateral stimulation. This sounds intimidating, but I promise it's gentle! Bilateral stimulation can mean moving your eyes back and forth, listening to a sound moving from your left to right ear, or holding a device that gentle vibrates in your left and right hand. While engaging in one of these activities while thinking about a painful experience, your brain starts to digest the memory and is able to no longer deem it an ongoing threatening experience. Pretty cool, right? IFS (Internal Family Systems) Therapy is a somatic and creative experience that helps you look at different internal "parts" of yourself, and connect with your inner world more deeply. By naming, acknowledging, and validating parts that have emotional pain, you can process and unburden heaviness that may have been hidden for a long time. It can be incredibly cathartic and enlightening.

Who I Help Best

I work best with women who are struggling with recent or childhood trauma, or are experiencing anxiety & panic about life, love, or identity. I additionally enjoy working with queer women, along with those who are currently questioning their sexuality and feeling overwhelmed.

What a First Session Is Like

I offer a free 20 minute consultation so I can learn a little about your hopes for therapy and see if I can help. I'll ask about what is bringing you to therapy to get a sense of your needs, but know there's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with. If we decide to work together, we will set up an intake session where I'll ask more in depth about your family, relationships, work, and day to day life. This allows me to get a holistic view of who you are, rather than just focusing in on a problem right away without any context. From there, we will talk a little about treatment goals and what future sessions will be like depending on your goals. Your first session also gives you a chance to get a sense of what it's like to sit with me! The most important part of therapy is feeling like you can be comfortable and open with a therapist, and if the vibes aren't right, then that is totally okay. I am always happy to offer referrals for a better fit.
