About Dwight

License #: 204856

Dr. Dwight Arthur Hughes is a spiritually integrated psychotherapist who supports individuals seeking a holistic approach to mental wellness, emotional clarity, and work–life balance. He also delights in counseling couples and others who long to strengthen their deep emotional and sexual connections. Dr. Hughes holds a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling from Wesley Theological Seminary, a Master of Mental Health Counseling from Belmont University, and has completed Core Skills Training through the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.

My Therapeutic Approach

I believe meaningful change begins when clients feel emotionally safe, deeply understood, and spiritually and personally respected. My therapeutic approach is integrative and intentionally focused. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy. Together, we will notice patterns, process emotions, renew beliefs, and practice new ways of responding—both in session and in everyday life. My aim is to help clients experience clarity, connection, and a renewed sense of personal and relational possibility.

Who I Help Best

I work with individuals who desire a holistic approach to mental wellness, emotional grounding, and work–life balance. I also work with couples who yearn for a more shared and connected life experience, including those wanting to deepen emotional and sexual intimacy. Many couples come to therapy as a last effort, unsure whether they can recover from relational injuries, blocks to intimacy, unhealthy conflict patterns, or even infidelity. I help partners understand what keeps them stuck and guide them toward healing, closeness, and renewed trust.

What a First Session Is Like

Clients can expect the first fifteen minutes of our initial session to include a brief review of practice policies. We will then begin the assessment by clarifying symptoms, identifying your top three concerns, exploring past counseling experiences, and outlining your goals for our work together. Each subsequent session begins with a concise summary of the previous one and continues in a focused, intentional manner. Over time, clients rediscover essential relational skills, deepen their understanding of how and why they react during conflict, and learn how their reactions trigger their partner—keeping both stuck in a painful back‑and‑forth cycle. Our work helps interrupt these patterns and create space for connection, repair, and emotional safety.
