About Jana Kay
License #: 203662I have been working with clients since 2017 in private practice as well as family advocacy centers. I opened the doors of McHam Family Therapy in 2024 so that new therapists had a place to practice their skills and offer affordable care to the community. I completed my degree in Marriage and Family Therapy through Abilene Christian University and now teach as an adjunct program clinical supervisor in their Marriage and Family Therapy Masters program. When I'm not in the therapy room, I am enjoying life with my husband and three kids. We enjoy camping, video games and family movie night!
My Therapeutic Approach
My primary approach for therapy is Solution-Focused Therapy. I believe that everyone has the resources within them to make the changes they seek to see in their lives. I believe that change can begin with one person and the impact can be great. When working with clients who have experienced trauma or have PTSD, I use EMDR therapy to help heal and repair the nervous system. I enjoy this process because of the less intrusive way it guides someone through processing their experiences without having to relive the experience.
Who I Help Best
I work best with couples, whether they are looking for ways to establish a healthy relationship pre-marriage, they have experienced betrayal in their relationship or just looking for ways to strengthen their relationship through life changes. I really enjoy working with people who have experienced trauma in their lives and are seeking healing and repair.
What a First Session Is Like
In our first session, we will spend some time getting to know each other to make sure that we are a good fit to work together. My goals in the first session are to understand what brought you to therapy and what you are hoping to achieve, get some background information to begin to understand where the problem may have started and to establish a plan for success.
