About Dr. Nyla

License #: 39409

I am a licensed psychologist and the founder of Bridgewell Cognitive Health. My work focuses on helping individuals understand the patterns in their thinking, behavior, and emotional responses that may be contributing to distress or difficulty in daily life. Many of the people I work with identify as neurodivergent or suspect that neurodivergent traits may be influencing their experiences. My practice focuses on the intersection of neurodivergence and mental health, particularly how differences in attention, cognition, and emotional processing can interact with conditions such as anxiety, obsessive-compulsive patterns, and executive functioning challenges. My clinical work focuses primarily on neurodivergence and the mental health conditions that commonly co-occur with it. These include: • ADHD and executive functioning challenges • Obsessive-compulsive patterns of thinking and behavior • Anxiety and chronic worry • Phobias and avoidance patterns • Body-focused repetitive behaviors (such as hair pulling or skin picking) • Emotional dysregulation and rumination • Neurodivergent relationship dynamics

My Therapeutic Approach

My approach to therapy is structured, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based treatments that are particularly effective for neurodivergent individuals and the mental health concerns that commonly co-occur with neurodivergence. Depending on each client’s needs, my work may incorporate several well-established therapeutic approaches, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify and shift patterns in thinking and behavior that contribute to anxiety and distress. Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard treatment for obsessive-compulsive patterns, which helps individuals gradually reduce the power of intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. Habit Reversal Training (HRT) for body-focused repetitive behaviors such as hair pulling and skin picking. This approach helps clients build awareness of triggers and develop alternative responses to reduce these behaviors over time. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to strengthen skills related to emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients develop greater psychological flexibility and learn how to respond to difficult thoughts and emotions without becoming stuck in them. I also incorporate somatic and nervous system–informed strategies that focus on how the body responds to stress and emotional activation.

Who I Help Best

My practice is particularly well suited for individuals who identify as neurodivergent or who suspect that differences in the way their brain processes information may be contributing to ongoing challenges. I work best with individuals who experience patterns such as: • ADHD, autism, learning differences, or executive functioning challenges, including difficulties with focus, organization, time management, planning, and task completion • Obsessive or repetitive thinking, including intrusive thoughts, rumination, and mental loops that are difficult to disengage from • Obsessive-compulsive patterns, including compulsions, reassurance seeking, checking behaviors, mental rituals, and fear-based avoidance • Body-focused repetitive behaviors, such as hair pulling (trichotillomania) or skin picking • Chronic anxiety or overthinking, particularly when uncertainty feels difficult to tolerate • Perfectionism and fear of making mistakes, which can lead to procrastination, avoidance, or burnout • Emotional intensity or difficulty regulating strong emotions, particularly when stress or overwhelm builds quickly • Phobias and avoidance behaviors that interfere with daily functioning • Couples in which one or both partners are neurodivergent, particularly when differences in attention, emotional processing, communication style, or obsessive thinking patterns are affecting the relationship

What a First Session Is Like

The initial appointment typically includes a comprehensive clinical interview to gather information about current concerns, relevant history, and patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behavior. This process helps identify the factors that may be contributing to the difficulties that brought the client to therapy. When appropriate, diagnostic impressions may be discussed to provide greater clarity regarding presenting concerns. Many individuals find it helpful to have a clearer framework for understanding their experiences, particularly when symptoms may be related to neurodivergence or commonly co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, obsessive-compulsive patterns, or executive functioning challenges. Following the clinical interview, evidence-based treatment options are reviewed and a structured treatment plan is established based on the client’s needs, goals, and presenting concerns. Initial sessions often include practical next steps or early therapeutic exercises to begin practicing between appointments. These strategies provide an opportunity to start developing new skills while also identifying patterns that will continue to be addressed throughout treatment. The purpose of the first session is to ensure that clients leave with a clearer understanding of the factors contributing to current challenges and a structured plan for addressing those concerns moving forward.
