About Kevin
License #: 68222I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and the founder of Kevin Spain Counseling, with over a decade of experience helping individuals and couples navigate life’s challenges and find meaningful healing. I am passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. I work with couples and adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relational conflict, and major life transitions. I have extensive experience helping individuals process loss, rebuild emotional resilience, and develop healthier patterns in their relationships and daily lives. I also work with couples to strengthen communication, restore trust, and deepen emotional connection. My approach integrates evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-informed care (EMDR), somatic awareness, and attachment-focused interventions. I believe healing happens within safe relationships, and I strive to help clients better understand themselves, regulate emotions, and move forward with clarity and confidence. As a supervisor, I am committed to mentoring and developing future counselors with integrity and compassion. Outside of my counseling work, I have been married to my wife, Janna, for 15 years, and we have one child. My personal experiences as a husband and father deeply shape my understanding of relationships, family dynamics, and the importance of connection and support.
My Therapeutic Approach
I am passionate about coming alongside individuals who are hurting or who need a fresh, objective perspective to help them move through difficult or stuck seasons of life. I believe counseling should be a place where you feel heard, understood, and supported. My approach is simple: meet people where they are, listen carefully to their story, and apply well-researched, evidence-based treatment methods to help them experience meaningful growth and healing. One of the specialized treatment modalities I offer is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR is a highly researched and effective approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences, distressing memories, anxiety, and deeply rooted emotional wounds. Many people find that EMDR allows them to experience relief and resolution in ways that traditional talk therapy alone cannot provide. This approach helps the brain reprocess painful experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity, allowing clients to move forward with greater freedom, clarity, and peace.
Who I Help Best
I have had the privilege of working in a variety of clinical environments, helping individuals and couples navigate challenges such as anxiety, grief, relationship struggles, life transitions, and emotional pain.
What a First Session Is Like
Your first session with me is designed to be a welcoming, relaxed, and meaningful starting point. My goal is to create a safe and comfortable space where you can begin sharing your story at your own pace. There is no pressure to have the right words or to know exactly where to start—simply showing up is enough. During our first session, we will spend time getting to know each other. I will ask some questions to better understand what brings you to counseling, what you have been experiencing, and what you hope may be different in your life moving forward. This may include discussing current challenges, important relationships, emotional or spiritual concerns, and any previous counseling experiences. I will also explain how counseling works, answer any questions you may have, and review confidentiality so you feel confident and secure in the process. This first session is not about fixing everything at once. Instead, it is about building trust, understanding your goals, and beginning to develop a path forward together. I approach counseling from a place of compassion, respect, and without judgment. I believe each person has inherent worth and the capacity for growth, healing, and change.
