About Jaqueline (Jackie)

License #: 9277

I have been many things in my life: a little girl with ADHD, a competitive gymnast, a coach, a teacher, a mom of a special needs child, and a caregiver for my elderly parents. I went back to school to get another degree because I found therapy to be so profoundly meaningful to me. My goal is to create that same healing experience for you. Clients describe me as genuine, very accepting, having a unique sense of humor, and as someone who keeps things real. I have experienced quite a few expected and unexpected life transitions, but my focus is on the experiences that have mattered to you. My values of connection, kindness, humor, and growth guide my work as a therapist. I have enjoyed continually growing professionally through research and training. My focus is on understanding why it is so hard to change the things that matter to us, especially when we often know what we should do, or at least have good intentions. It is so important to begin with a deep understanding of which past and present experiences and patterns matter to you. We will continue to use regular check-ins as we work together to make any needed changes as you work towards your goals.

My Therapeutic Approach

I offer a number of ways for us to work together. Traditional once a week sessions, 45 minute session with 15-minute mid-week telehealth check-in and intensive sessions and programs. Sometimes we need a more focused timeline. This works especially well for sleep (CBT-I program), or when you need a more focused break from your life to process. I match therapeutic approaches to what you are struggling with and who you are as an individual. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is very effective for insomnia and sleep issues. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has effective tools for emotional regulation. Motivational Interviewing (MI) provides effective language for encouraging and supporting change. Mindfulness techniques and exploring somatic processing can be very effective for some people, and cause a lot of resistance for others. I want you to feel comfortable being an active participant to find what works for you. Techniques matter, but the most important factor in effective therapy is that you trust our connection, feel understood, and that we are working towards shared goals — you are not alone.

Who I Help Best

Is your lack of sleep impacting your daily life? Do you feel like you overreact to everything and can't do anything consistently? Did something happen, like a divorce, a loss, a change of roles, and you just can't move through it? I work best with adults of all ages who have tried using tips, tricks, advice, logic, discipline, and/or positive thinking to change a behavior, feeling, or part of themselves, but have ended up emotionally and physically exhausted. Wanting something to be different is usually the first step. Knowing it is okay to ask for support is where you are now.

What a First Session Is Like

I offer a free telehealth consultation for several reasons. It is good practice for you to prove that your needs matter. You can ask questions, get clarification, and decide if it feels like a good fit. If you want to move forward, we will get most of the boring paperwork out of the way before our first real meeting. Our first session, usually 90 minutes, is a chance to review the specifics of therapy itself and, more importantly, for you to let me know how you would like things to be different. It doesn't have to be a perfect answer. It is a starting point for us to begin creating a real plan for the change you want in your life.
