About Dave
License #: TN 5093I took an unusual path to becoming a therapist. At age 50, I returned to school to earn my Master's degree in Counseling because I wanted my work to make a lasting difference in people's lives. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. There is nothing more rewarding than watching people who once felt stuck, overwhelmed, or discouraged begin to heal and regain hope. Seeing clients grow stronger, more confident, and more connected to the people they love is a privilege I never take for granted. Trauma therapy is especially meaningful to me because I've seen how unresolved experiences can quietly shape every area of life. As healing takes place, people often experience greater peace, healthier relationships, and a new sense of freedom they never thought possible. Helping someone move from merely surviving to truly living is why I love what I do. Every day, I'm grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside people as they discover that lasting healing and meaningful change are possible.
My Therapeutic Approach
My approach is warm, collaborative, and focused on helping you feel better—not forcing you to relive the past. I use evidence-based trauma therapies, including EMDR and Brainspotting, to help the brain and body process distress safely. Therapy can be practical, compassionate, and paced in a way that feels manageable..
Who I Help Best
I work with adults 16+ and offer in-person therapy in Brentwood and Telehealth across Tennessee. Many clients come to me after trying therapy before and still feeling stuck. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions and see if we’re a good fit..
What a First Session Is Like
Our first session is all about getting to know you and helping you feel comfortable. My goal isn't to have you relive painful experiences or tell your entire story on day one. Instead, I'll spend time learning about what's bringing you to counseling, how your symptoms are affecting your life, what you've already tried, and what you hope to accomplish through therapy. If you choose to share some of your trauma history, I'll listen carefully, but only at a pace that feels right for you. You are always in control of what you share and when you share it. I'll also explain how trauma affects the brain, body, emotions, and relationships so you can better understand why you've been experiencing the reactions you have. We'll talk about what treatment will look like, answer any questions you have, and create a plan tailored specifically to your needs and goals. Before you leave, I'll teach you one or two practical tools to help you feel more grounded and emotionally steady between sessions. Most importantly, I want you to leave our first meeting feeling heard, understood, and hopeful, with a clear sense of the path we'll take together toward healing.
