About Erica
License #: PC015481Hi there! Welcome to Empirical Embrace Counseling! My name is Erica and I am founder and lead therapist! I received my undergraduate degree from Belmont University in Nashville, TN and my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Immaculata University. I have been working with clients since 2020 and obtained my Pennsylvania Licensure in 2023. I am also licensed to practice in New Jersey and Delaware! Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy spending time with my friends, family (particularly my niece), and my french bulldog, Beau! I also love to read, travel, binge watch TV shows, and listen to music (shoutout to my fellow Swifties!). I am also an adjunct professor at Immaculata University (in the same program I graduated from) teaching special topic courses like Eating Disorders and OCD. I became a therapist because I understand what it feels like to be in the throes of mental illness while also navigating the ups and downs of life - and how isolating that can be. I want all of my clients to feel safe when they are in the therapy room with me. I want them to know that they have me in their corner to support, guide, and advocate for them. My clients inspire me every. single. day. and I am truly passionate about my work
My Therapeutic Approach
I am a behavior therapist at heart and the root of my training is in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). With that being said, I combine my CBT skills with a Person-Centered Approach, which I believe creates an atmosphere where I can both challenge my clients appropriately AND provide a safe and empathically driven environment. The single most important thing to me in the therapy room is my relationship with my client - which is why I always welcome feedback. I am the expert in the treatments but you are the expert on you! I am extensively trained in the following: Exposure/Response Prevention for OCD (ERP) Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy - Enhanced for Eating Disorders (CBTe) Family Based Therapy for Adolescents with Anorexia (FBT) Formerly known as The Maudsley Approach Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD (PE)
Who I Help Best
I am passionate about my work and I work best with clients ages 16+. While I love working with diagnoses such as OCD, eating disorders, and PTSD, I also work well with people that just need support through life’s toughest challenges. You’re human and so am I - That’s why I strive to connect with my clients on that basic level.
What a First Session Is Like
In our first session, I focus first and foremost on rapport building. I will ask questions to get to know you and what’s bringing you to therapy. In the first few sessions, I never push my clients to share information that they aren’t ready to share yet. I let the rapport building take its natural course and I trust that the rest will follow.
